Porcelain Veneers An Overview
Even the healthiest of smiles may need some straightening or reshaping. Porcelain veneers are the most popular dental procedure for a beautiful and dramatic smile makeover. Richard Van Gurp, DDS is a cosmetic dentist in Charlotte, NC with more than 20 years experience. We offer conservative restoration with porcelain veneers to improve the health and beauty of any smile.
Because they require a minimal amount of tooth reduction, they are a more conservative restoration than a crown. Each wafer thin laminate is designed to cover the front surface of the teeth. Custom shaped and colored, they cover dark or yellow teeth, fill undesirable gaps and correct the appearance of broken, crooked or unevenly sized teeth.
Types of Veneers
Dr. Van Gurp offers several types of veneers including resin veneers, porcelain veneers and CEREC same day veneers:
- Resin veneers are a tooth bonding procedure, where Dr. Van Gurp applies a composite resin to the tooth and sculpts it into the desired form.
- Porcelain veneers are an indirect procedure, either made in a dental laboratory or in our Charlotte dentist office using CEREC technology.

Porcelain Veneers What to Expect
Dr. Van Gurp can fabricate porcelain veneers by two methods. He will help you choose which technique is right based on your aesthetic goals and needs.
Traditional Porcelain Veneers
The most common and traditional technique for fabricating porcelain veneers is to use a dental laboratory. Dr. Van Gurp send an impression of your teeth along with treatment specifications to a highly talented ceramist, who will hand-fabricate each tooth veneer. This process generally takes 3 to 4 weeks and requires multiple visits. You will wear temporary veneers in between visits.
Same Day Porcelain Veneers
Dr. Van Gurp s one of a handful of dentists in the Charlotte area to offer same day porcelain veneers with CEREC technology. This innovative technology allows Dr. Van Gurp to design and fabricate porcelain veneers in a single office visit.
Before & After: See Our Results
Dale was new to the Charlotte area when she came to see us. Unhappy with the appearance of her teeth, she wanted to do something to help her look her best. She had old bonding that was worn and discolored. In fact, Dale was unhappy with the overall color of all of her teeth.
Dr. Van Gurp also noted that the two front teeth were of different sizes which greatly impacted the overall beauty of her smile.
For Dale, we raised the gum on the short front tooth and placed porcelain veneers on the teeth involved with the smile. Dale was ecstatic with the results.
” Dr. Van Gurp, thank you for making my big smile brighter and more beautiful! Coming to your office runs a close second to being at a day spa and that is no exaggeration! My comfort is assured every step of the way. I appreciate your thorough consultation, caring approach, good humor, clean and up-to-date office, and your knowledgeable and cheery staff. I’m pleased that you are part of my healthcare ‘team!’ ” – Dale
